ICSI Student Induction Programme (SIP): What It Is and When to Complete It?

The ICSI Student Induction Programme and the CS Executive Orientation Program are mandatory training requirements at different stages of the Company Secretary course. SIP applies at the CSEET stage, while the three-day orientation programme is intended for students registered for the CS Executive Programme. Understanding this difference is important because completing the applicable programme is linked to exam enrolment.

ICSI has revised the duration and format of these programmes over time. As a result, some older information available online may not reflect the current requirements. Students should check which programme applies to them, its completion deadline, fee, mode of attendance and registration process.

Why do students keep mixing up these two programmes?

Not long ago, an Executive student attended a one-day ICSI Orientation, and that was the end of the matter. That format, the old ODOP, has since been replaced by a three-day programme. Around the same period, ICSI introduced a one-day induction at the CSEET stage instead.

So, the one-day class never vanished. It moved to the beginning of the journey, while the Executive stage received something longer. Once you understand that change, most of the confusion online begins to clear.

What the ICSI Student Induction Programme covers?

ICSI SIP is a single-day session for students who have just registered for CSEET. There are no marks, no test and no assignment afterwards. The Institute uses the day to introduce itself before coaching brochures and Instagram reels do it first.

Three sessions fill the day:

• The first explains what ICSI is and what Company Secretaries handle in real jobs.
• The second maps the road from student to member, stage by stage.
• The third covers the syllabus, ICSI’s free online classes, study methods and examination pattern.

Students who sit through it attentively usually leave with two things. First, a realistic sense of how long the CS course takes. Second, the discovery that several ICSI resources they were about to pay for elsewhere are already available free of cost.

Who must attend SIP and by when?

Read these rules against your own registration date rather than relying on what a senior told you:

• Students registered under the restructured CSEET on or after 16 December 2025 fall under this requirement.
• The programme must be completed within one month of CSEET registration.
• Sessions run for roughly six hours, usually between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., and no leave is permitted.
• The fee is ₹500, already included in the CSEET registration fee paid directly to ICSI headquarters.
• Each batch accommodates between 10 and 50 students, and every Regional Office or Chapter is expected to conduct at least one batch each month.

One line matters more than the rest. Completing the ICSI Student Induction Programme at the entry level is a prerequisite for enrolling in the CSEET examination. A pending certificate can block your exam enrolment, however well your preparation is going.

Students staying more than 100 km from a centre may complete this ICSI Student Programme through the Institute’s LMS. This also helps answer the frequent search for a one day orientation programme for CS Executive online, although the online route currently applies to SIP students who meet the distance condition.

The CS Executive Orientation is now a three-day programme

Once you register for the CS Executive Programme, the requirement changes. The three-day orientation, known as TDOP, has taken over from the earlier one-day format.

• Practical training rules and the route to membership
• Communication skills, aptitude and career planning

Attendance on all three days is compulsory, and no leave is granted midway.

How to apply for orientation ICSI batches?

Two questions come up in our counselling calls almost every week: how to apply for orientation ICSI expects at each stage, and how to enrol for a one day orientation programme ICSI conducts at the CSEET level. The steps below cover both.

• Track the tentative schedules published on icsi.edu, which list SIP and TDOP batches by Regional Council and Chapter, usually a quarter in advance.
• Contact the Chapter nearest to you, since batch dates and registration links are announced locally.
• Apply as soon as a batch opens because seats are allotted on a first-come basis and close once the batch reaches 50 students.
• Confirm your distance from the nearest centre before choosing online mode. SIP allows the LMS route beyond 100 km, while TDOP offers webinar mode beyond 60 km through the largest Chapter in the state.
• Do not make any separate payment to a local office. Both fees reach ICSI headquarters at the time of course registration.
• Download the completion certificate during the same week and keep both a digital and printed copy for exam enrolment and training registration.

Where the orientation sits in your full CS route

Each stage of ICSI training unlocks the next one, so a delay early in the course can push everything behind it:

• One-day SIP after CSEET registration
• Three-day CS Executive Orientation after registering for the Executive Programme
• Thirty-day EDP after clearing Executive, split into 15 days online and 15 days in the classroom
• Twenty-one months of practical training under a PCS, company or approved entity
• Thirty-day CLDP after passing the Professional Programme

Looked at this way, the orientation is not merely paperwork. It is the first gate in a chain that ends with ICSI membership.

Mistakes that repeat every session

Counsellors see the same mistakes happen batch after batch:

• Students assume the induction is optional and then find their exam form blocked.
• They wait until the last fortnight of a one-month or three-month window.
• They expect their coaching centre to register them, although students must complete the registration themselves.
• They select online mode without meeting the distance condition and lose the seat.
• They miss one day of the three-day programme, which invalidates the completion.
• They misplace the certificate and request a duplicate under deadline pressure.

Finish the short training before it costs you a cycle

One day at the CSEET level. Three days at the Executive level. That is the entire commitment, yet a missing certificate can push your attempt back by six months.

Register, check your Chapter’s calendar during the same week and complete the ICSI Orientation Programme early. Handle the CS Executive Orientation Program on time, and the rest of your CS timeline can stay exactly where you planned it.
