Passing the CA Final is the moment most students dream about for years. But another milestone makes the journey feel official: The ICAI Convocation.
For newly qualified Chartered Accountants, the convocation marks your formal entry into the professional community. You move from preparing for examinations and completing training to becoming an enrolled member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
ICAI has announced its next convocation for 12 September 2026. It will be conducted across 23 centres in India for eligible members enrolled between 1 May 2026 and 15 August 2026. Eligible members will receive their Certificate of Membership or Certificate of Practice, as applicable.
With the ICAI New Scheme, aspirants must develop their skills and expertise for the CA exams. Rank holders of the May 2026 CA Final examination will also receive Rank Certificates. If you recently qualified, here is everything you need to know.
Before making travel plans, understand the main announcement. The September 2026 convocation covers:
ICAI's Members & Students Services Directorate announced this on 18 August 2026. For students still at Foundation or Intermediate, this may seem far away. But think about what it represents.
Foundation starts your CA journey. Final tests the professional knowledge you have built. Membership marks your entry into the profession. The convocation celebrates that transition.
The ICAI Convocation will take place on: 12 September 2026
All the centres listed in ICAI's official announcement are scheduled for the same date. If you are eligible, avoid assuming that the programme will follow the same timings in every city. ICAI has stated that eligible members will receive individual information about:
Therefore, check your registered communication channels regularly. You can also check the ICAI CDS portal for further details.
Who can attend this convocation? ICAI states that the September 2026 Convocation is for members enrolled from 1 May 2026 to 15 August 2026. Notice the wording carefully.
Simply passing CA Final does not automatically mean you fall under this specific convocation. You need to look at your membership enrolment period. So, if you have recently cleared CA Final, ask yourself:
“When was I enrolled as an ICAI member?”
If your enrolment falls within the announced period, watch for ICAI's individual communication. For aspiring students, this also explains an important step in the CA journey:
Passing CA Final → completing applicable requirements → applying for membership → becoming an ICAI member
The convocation relates to membership, not just examination results. Furthermore, you get to compare the ICAI New Scheme vs Old Scheme, which will help aspirants to decide more effectively.
The main ceremonial recognition for eligible newly enrolled members is the award of the Certificate of Membership or Certificate of Practice (COP), as applicable. For a newly qualified CA, this certificate carries professional significance.
The convocation represents:
It is easy to think of the convocation only as a photograph or ceremonial event. But professionally, it represents something much bigger. You have completed years of:
Now your focus shifts from passing exams to building a career. Furthermore, to achieve CA convocation successfully, you can compare the ICAI study material vs Practice manual so that you can prepare more effectively.
The September 2026 programme also includes special recognition for rank holders of the CA Final examination held in May 2026. ICAI states that these rank holders will be felicitated with Rank Certificates during the convocation. This is separate from the Membership Certificate or COP given to eligible members. So, the event recognises two achievements:
For current CA students, this can be a motivating reminder. A rank is impressive, but even if you do not achieve one, completing CA itself remains a significant professional milestone.
ICAI published the convocation announcement on 18 August 2026. However, the main announcement does not yet provide a single detailed venue and timing schedule for every centre.
Instead, ICAI has said that eligible members will be intimated individually by the Members & Students Services Directorate with venue, timing, and other participation details. Members will also need to confirm their participation.
ICAI has said that detailed programme information will also be hosted on its website. Therefore, eligible members should:
Do not rely only on WhatsApp forwards or unofficial social media posts. Always check official ICAI communication.
ICAI will conduct the September 2026 Convocation across 23 centres divided among its five regions. Here is the region-wise list.
The Western Region has four centres:
If you are an eligible member linked to the Western Region, check the individual communication from ICAI to confirm your assigned centre and programme details.
The Southern Region has six convocation centres:
This makes the Southern Region one of the regions with the largest number of centres in the September schedule. The life of a CA student is influenced by how they start their CA journey.
For CA students from South India, centres such as Bengaluru, Chennai, Ernakulam and Hyderabad make the professional milestone more accessible across major cities.
The Eastern Region has three centres:
Eligible members should wait for ICAI's official venue and timing communication before finalising their arrangements.
The Central Region has seven centres:
It has the highest number of centres among the five regions in the September 2026 announcement.
The Northern Region has three centres:
ICAI will communicate venue and timing information individually to eligible participants.
The ICAI Convocation on 12 September 2026 is an important milestone for newly qualified Chartered Accountants.
Members enrolled between 1 May and 15 August 2026 are covered by the current announcement. Eligible members will receive their Certificate of Membership/COP, while May 2026 CA Final rank holders will be felicitated with Rank Certificates. The event will take place across 23 cities under ICAI's Western, Southern, Eastern, Central, and Northern Regions.
For Class 12 students who are only beginning to think about CA, the convocation may seem like the final page of a very long journey. It is not. It is actually the beginning of your professional life.
After qualification, you can explore opportunities in areas such as audit, taxation, corporate finance, consulting, financial reporting, industry, practice, and other finance-related roles. For graduates and working professionals considering CA, the same message applies. The qualification requires patience. But every stage has a purpose.
Registration starts the journey. Exams test your knowledge. Practical training develops your skills. Membership welcomes you into the profession. And the convocation gives you a moment to celebrate everything it took to get there.
The announcement covers ICAI members enrolled between 1 May 2026 and 15 August 2026.
The September announcement is based on the membership enrolment period, not simply the date you passed CA Final.
ICAI advises members to contact the concerned Regional Office or Branch for enquiries. The Members & Students Services Directorate is handling the convocation communication.
You can start planning, but check your individual ICAI communication for your confirmed centre, venue, and timing before finalising arrangements.
Yes. ICAI's announcement says eligible members will receive details for confirmation of their participation in the convocation.
