Finding the right company for CS training is an important step after clearing the CS Executive Programme. Students often have questions about the training period, eligible trainers, available vacancies and the registration process. Having clear and accurate information can help you choose a suitable training opportunity and avoid delays.
This guide explains ICSI’s long-term training requirements, who is eligible to train CS students, where to find genuine vacancies and what to consider before accepting an offer. It also covers common mistakes that can affect the validity of your training. For a broader understanding, read our CS Professional roadmap to see how practical training fits alongside your Professional exams.
What Is CS Long Term Training?
CS long-term training is a 21-month practical internship that every CS student completes under an ICSI-registered trainer. It sits between your Executive result and your ACS membership. You can skip it only if you qualify for an exemption based on prior experience.
If you're planning CS training after Executive, these are the core rules under the ICSI Student Training Guidelines 2024:
-
Eligibility: Pass CS Executive and complete the 30-day Executive Development Programme (EDP).
-
EDP order: 15 days online through ICSI's LMS first, then 15 days in classroom mode.
-
Company secretary training period: 21 months.
-
Working hours: At least eight hours a day, usually between 8 am and 8 pm.
-
Stipend: Minimum ₹5,000 a month through a bank account, probation included.
-
Leave: 52 days (including 31 days of exam leave) if you train while preparing for Professional. Start after passing Professional, and you get 21 days of casual leave.
-
After training: Clear Professional, finish training, then attend the 30-day Corporate Leadership Development Programme (CLDP).
So the company secretary training course has three stages: EDP before, 21 months of practical training in the middle, and CLDP at the end.
Is CS Training 15 Months or 21 Months?
Search for '15 months training company secretary ICSI' and you'll still find pages quoting the old figure. The 15-month management training belonged to ICSI's earlier structure. Under the new structure, which took effect on 3 February 2021, long-term training lasts 21 months.
Students registered under older structures must switch over and complete the remaining training under the new rules. So if a senior mentions a 15 month training company secretary route, ask which structure they followed. The CS training period after Executive is 21 months under current rules.
Who Can Impart CS Training?
Many students look for a list of companies ICSI has specified for CS training. ICSI doesn't publish a ranked list of names. Instead, it defines categories of eligible trainers, and each one must register with the Institute before taking you on.
-
Company Secretary in Practice (PCS): Holds a Certificate of Practice and has at least one year of experience as a CS.
-
Companies: NIFTY 50 companies, the top 500 listed companies, other listed companies, and unlisted or SME-listed companies. Companies imparting CS training need a whole-time company secretary. Unlisted and SME-listed firms also need ₹50 lakh paid-up capital or ₹5 crore net worth.
-
Companies abroad: Open to students living in that country, subject to capital and staffing conditions.
-
LLPs: PCS-firm LLPs, LLPs with ICSI-member partners that meet net worth or turnover thresholds, and GIFT City LLPs.
-
Regulators and other entities: MCA and its offices (ROC, Regional Director, Official Liquidator), SEBI, NSE, BSE, IRDAI, RBI and ICSI's own offices.
Seat Limits for Each Type of Trainer
This rarely comes up in seminars, yet it explains a lot of silent inboxes. From 1 April 2025, each trainer can take only a fixed number of trainees.

Where to Find Companies for CS Training
Students usually hear about company secretary training vacancies in companies and PCS offices through these channels:
-
ICSI Placement Portal: ICSI runs its own portal where organisations post job and training vacancies, and students can register to search and apply at placement.icsi.edu. You can also check ICSI placement portal.
-
Your regional office or chapter: Chapters hear about local openings and sometimes run placement drives. Walking in often gets more help than an email.
-
Your EDP batch: Many EDP faculty members are practising CSs, and batchmates share leads as they land seats.
-
Annual reports: Every listed company names its company secretary in its annual report. Send a short email with your EDP certificate and joining date.
-
Job sites and LinkedIn: Searches for a company secretary training vacancy bring up many listings. Confirm ICSI trainer registration before accepting.
Company Secretary Training in Delhi and Hyderabad
Vacancies cluster where regulators and head offices sit.
-
Delhi NCR: ICSI's headquarters, NIRC and the MCA head office are here, along with many corporate head offices. If you're hunting for a company secretary training vacancy in Delhi, expect more choice than in smaller cities, and more applicants too.
-
Hyderabad: ICSI has a chapter and a CCGRT centre in the city. Company secretary training in Hyderabad can also mean exposure to pharma and IT companies.
-
Mumbai: SEBI, BSE and NSE are headquartered here, which suits students keen on securities law.
Relocating costs money. Weigh rent and travel against the exposure a bigger city offers.
Company Secretary Training in Banks and Regulators
-
RBI, SEBI, the stock exchanges, IRDAI and MCA offices can all take trainees, but seats are few. Track their official websites and ICSI announcements.
-
Listed private banks come under the listed company categories, provided they have a whole-time CS and register with ICSI. Company secretary training in banks brings exposure to board processes and regulatory reporting.
Keep a PCS or corporate option ready as a backup.
How to Pick the Best Company for CS Training?
Many candidates ask for a list of top organizations for practical training. In reality, the best choice is not simply a famous name, but an office where you gain hands-on exposure to real corporate tasks.

Before you say yes, ask:
-
Verify trainer registration: Request proof that the trainer is officially registered with ICSI to provide training.
-
Evaluate work exposure: Confirm whether your daily tasks will involve corporate law, securities regulations, corporate governance, MCA filings, or NCLT proceedings.
-
Check mentorship and guidance: Clarify who will supervise your day-to-day work, as a practice without adequate senior support might leave you filing forms independently.
-
Confirm exam leave policies: Ensure the trainer will accommodate and respect your required leave for upcoming examinations.
-
Ensure direct stipend disbursement: Verify that your stipend payments will be processed directly through formal bank transfers.
Steps to Register Your CS Training With ICSI
-
Finish the 30-day EDP after your Executive result.
-
Get a contract from a PCS on non-judicial stamp paper (minimum ₹20), or obtain a Letter of Training from a company.
-
Register on the Stimulate portal, ideally before your first day. Registration beyond 30 days of your start date isn't treated as valid training.
-
Complete two months of probation. You can change trainers during probation with 14 days' notice.
-
After probation, transfers are allowed only in listed exceptional cases, such as three months of unpaid stipend or by mutual NOC. Expect a 60-day notice period unless both sides agree to shorten it.
-
Your trainer files quarterly reports online. You submit a project report and collect your completion certificate.
Common Mistakes Students Make With CS Training
-
Registering late. Miss the 30-day window, and the period you've already worked may not count at all.
-
Choosing on stipend alone. An extra ₹3,000 a month means little if you spend 21 months scanning documents.
-
Accepting "online" or part-time offers. Online modes exist for parts of the EDP and CLDP, but company secretary training online doesn't replace the internship. Long-term training needs a full working day with a registered trainer, so check with ICSI if an offer sounds different.
-
Taking extra leave casually. Leave beyond your entitlement extends your training.
-
Paying for a seat. Genuine trainers hire trainees. They don't sell places.
How Your Training Shapes Your CS Career?
Your 21 months often decide your first job after qualifying. Trainees who've handled real filings and board meetings usually interview with more confidence. Some receive offers from the same organisation, though that's never guaranteed.
-
PCS training builds a base for your own independent practice as a Company Secretary.

Corporate training suits secretarial and compliance roles in listed firms and growing startups.
