CMA India Rank List 2026: AIR Calculation & Rank Check

Clearing a CMA examination is an achievement in itself. But for some students, another question comes immediately after the result:

“Did I get an All India Rank?”

You may also wonder how ICMAI calculates AIR, whether a particular percentage guarantees a rank, or whether students who clear one group at a time can enter the rank list. The answer is more specific than simply “score high marks.”

ICMAI maintains official rank lists for CMA Intermediate and Final examinations. Its merit rules emphasise candidates who complete all subjects together, without exemptions, in one sitting. With the ICMAI skills training, candidates will develop expertise in IOTP, analytics, and SAP.

ICMAI also awards Certificates of Merit to qualifying Intermediate and Final candidates who meet these conditions. For June 2026, ICMAI declared Intermediate and Final results on August 5, 2026, alongside rank information for the examination term. So, how does AIR actually work? Let us break it down.

How AIR Is Calculated in CMA India

An All India Rank is not calculated through a separate formula such as:

percentage * number of candidates

Instead, ranking is based primarily on how a candidate's total examination marks compare with those of other eligible candidates. ICMAI's published prize and merit rules state that candidates securing the highest total marks among eligible Certificate of Merit holders receive the top positions in Intermediate and Final.

Therefore, AIR is fundamentally a relative merit ranking. If one eligible student has the highest qualifying total, that candidate may receive AIR 1. The next highest qualifying total determines the following rank, subject to ties. Importantly, there is no publicly stated fixed percentage such as:

“Score 75%, and you will definitely get AIR 10.”

Aggregate Marks

Aggregate marks play a central role. For CMA Intermediate under Syllabus 2022, students study eight papers across Groups I and II. CMA Final also contains papers across Groups III and IV.

For merit recognition, ICMAI refers to candidates taking all subjects together at one sitting without exemption. For example, imagine two eligible Intermediate candidates:

Total marks across all papers: 610

Candidate B

Total marks across all papers: 625

If both satisfy all merit conditions, Candidate B would rank above Candidate A because the total aggregate is higher. That is why students targeting AIR should not think only about “passing every subject.” Every extra mark matters.

A five-mark improvement in one paper may change your position against candidates across India. However, remember that ICMAI does not publish a standard AIR cutoff before the examination. The marks needed for a particular rank can change from one term to another.

Minimum Criteria

A high aggregate alone does not automatically make every candidate eligible for merit recognition. ICMAI's published rules state that a Certificate of Merit is issued to an Intermediate or Final candidate who passes all subjects together, without exemption, at one sitting.

The normal examination passing requirements also apply. For Intermediate and Final, a candidate appearing in both groups must secure:

• At least 40% in each paper appeared
• At least 50% aggregate, taking both groups together, to qualify under the applicable both-group rule.

Similarly, students relying on exemptions should not assume they will be treated in the same way as candidates eligible for the standard Certificate of Merit. This distinction is particularly important if your goal is an All India Rank rather than simply passing the course. 

Ties

What happens if two students achieve the same ranking performance? ICMAI's published rank lists clearly show that more than one candidate can hold the same rank. For example, an official Final rank list has shown multiple students sharing ranks such as Rank 4, Rank 9, and several other positions.

Therefore, a tie does not necessarily mean ICMAI must force one candidate above another. Shared ranks can appear. Students sometimes read online claims about tie-break methods based on individual paper marks, age, or registration number.

However, the public ICMAI documents reviewed for this article do not provide a detailed secondary tie-breaking hierarchy. So it is safer not to assume one. If ICMAI publishes specific tie rules for a future exam term, those official instructions should take priority.

After results are announced, avoid depending only on screenshots shared through WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, or coaching groups. Use the Institute's official sources.

What About CMA Foundation Ranks?

Foundation works slightly differently. ICMAI's prospectus states that candidates passing Foundation are not issued a Rank Certificate, while Intermediate and Final rank holders can receive Rank Certificates.

However, ICMAI's official prize rules do recognise top Foundation performance, including prizes for candidates securing the first, second and third ranks. Therefore, students should distinguish between:
